Mum is 76 travelling to australia have been told she needs a medical? |

certificate or she wont get in ,cant find any info on internet and its over a quid a minute to call australia house ,anyone know if its true. |

Because Australia has a reciprocal arrangement with the UK to provide medically necessary (see link below for explanation) care under our Medicare scheme, our government may require a medical check to alert them of any pre-existing conditions which are not covered under the agreement. They may also want to be sure that she is unlikely to require emergency medical care which would be a cost to Australian taxpayers. If anything shows up during the tests, they may require her to take out additional medical insurance. |

It depends on what sort of visa she needs but you can always call or email the embassy in your country it will be cheaper. I had to have a medical for working with children under 5 incl a chest xray. I dont know about just for holidays in general though. |

It depends what country she is flying from. a medical was introduced about a month ago. mid march, and it's now mandatory in some situations. it probably just a TB test. |

I am sure the travel insurance company that she will use will be wanting a medical before they issue insurance for someone that old. If she has any serious chronic conditions they will want her to pay more for the insurance. |
