Because Australia has a reciprocal arrangement with the UK to provide medically necessary (see link below for explanation) care under our Medicare scheme, our government may require a medical check to alert them of any pre-existing conditions which are not covered under the agreement. They may also want to be sure that she is unlikely to require emergency medical care which would be a cost to Australian taxpayers. If anything shows up during the tests, they may require her to take out additional medical insurance.

It depends on what sort of visa she needs but you can always call or email the embassy in your country it will be cheaper. I had to have a medical for working with children under 5 incl a chest xray. I dont know about just for holidays in general though.

It depends what country she is flying from. a medical was introduced about a month ago. mid march, and it's now mandatory in some situations. it probably just a TB test.

I am sure the travel insurance company that she will use will be wanting a medical before they issue insurance for someone that old. If she has any serious chronic conditions they will want her to pay more for the insurance.
