I'm going to learn how ti surf in Surfer's Paradise in Gold Coast, Australia in a couple weeks. Should I be worried about sharks?

No at all, sharks rarely come up close to the shore line and when they do they shut the beach.

Whilst a lot of surfers make light of shark sighting, the majority of surfers do see sharks several times during their surfing life. Most of the time, the sharks ignore them or have a bit of a look at them and swim away. Sometimes though, there have been attacks and some of them have been fatal. The majority of time though, surfers will not even be aware that there are sharks near them in the water.

Dude! I live in Surfers Paradise, no way! I live in an apartment at Suncity Resort, anyways...I am a frequent surfer, Id be out there now, except Im sick. I've never come by a shark in my 3 years...so don't be worried. They'll only get ya if you wear red, or flail about off your board. You'll love it mate. There's a great place 'bout 5 minutes walk from the Beach Entrance Sign, and they have awesome lessons, try and get Matt if you can, he's an awesome instructor and friend. But yea, just ask if ya need any more info.
