I want to fly to Australia on the 20th of December and return to the UK on the 4th of January. These dates are not flexible.

I work in the aviation industry and have done for many years. Does that qualify me? I'll tell you now that you will not get cheap flights for these dates. The lowest fares will have already sold and they will only get higher as the year progresses. That's the way the industry works. If you leave it too late there's not a hope of finding any availability. You're looking at the absolute optimum time to be travelling to Oz. Book now to avoid disappointment, especially as your dates aren't flexible.

Book now, avoid the mad rush of people booking in the later months, so you get a better chance of not being bumped off by increased rates by cash hungry airlines. REMEMBER! The air passenger charge tax is in effect, so you will have to cough up £40 for economy seats and £80-90 for first class or business

Book ASAP. As Christmas gets closer, prices will go up. While it is still cold, people are not thinking about traveling next Christmas. Once spring and summer get here, people begin making travel plans for Christmas. Book now and you will get the best price.

I flew to Aus using airlinenetwork.com, £800 return on BA. I booked it six months in advance. If you don't care which airline you use, you'll find cheaper too.

Book now, but look around to see who is offering the best fares, obviously. The prices do NOT go down as you get nearer the time - not for that period - and you are more likely to find that you can't even get tickets for the dates you want if you wait.
